I have decided to look at some of the aspects that I will be using when it comes to editing my film. A crucial one which makes our film appear unique and allows us to use different editing techniques is through the use of a Video Montage. We are going to be using a video montage in order to display the insanity of the nature of girlfriend Poppy. As Poppy appears to be trapped in the mind set that she believes boyfriend, Karl is cheating on her. Within our video montage we aim to display the different natures to Poppy and her growing investigation and searches linking to our Thriller genre.
Jump cut Is a cut in film editing in which two sequential shots of the same subject are taken from camera positions that vary only slightly. This type of edit gives the effect of jumping forwards in time.
Match on action- Either an action commenced in shot A is completed in shot B, or an action in shot A is mirrored by an action in shot B, for example when we cut from character A in location A reading a letter to character B in location B reading the same letter.
Crosscutting/parallel editing- Alternates shots of two or more lines of action occurring in different places, usually simultaneously. The two actions are therefore linked, associating the characters from both lines of action.
Shot-reverse shot- One character is shown looking at another character, and then the other character is shown looking back at the first character. Since the characters are shown facing in opposite directions, the viewer assumes that they are looking at each other.
Graphic match- Edit is two successive shots joined so as to create a string similarity of compositional elements for example colour, or shape. Which creates a smooth transition. A graphic match often helps to establish a strong continuity of action and can link the two shots metaphorically.
eye line match- Begins with a character looking at something off-screen, there will then be cut to the object or object or person at which they're is looking.
Pace/Rhythm- the perceived and regularity of sounds, series of shots, and movements within the shots. Rhythm is one of the essential features of a film, for it decisively contributes to its mood and overall impression on the spectator. It's achieved through the combination of mise-en-scene, cinematography, sound and editing. Rhythm can be understood as the final balance all of the elements of a film.
In The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, as three men face each other in a triangle, the film's theme songs is played. The slow mounting crescendo is paralleled by an increase in the editing rate, and an intensified framing.
Transition- fade/wipe- attempts to blend two shots together, rather than simply joining them end to end. often transitions are used to imply a passage of time.
Overlapping editing uses cuts that repeat part or all an action, thus expanding its viewing time and plot duration. overlapping editing is a common characteristic of the frenzied Hong Kong action films of the 80s and 90s.
Continuity Editing
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/continuity
Continuity is known for being a continuous sort of some kind. It could be classified as linking in with a motion-picture scenario in which they are then shown on a screen.
180 Degree Rulehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/180-degree_ruleThe 180 degree rule in film making is all about on screen spatial awareness between either character(s) on the screen or a specific object. The way it works is there is an imaginary line which is known as the axis which connects the characters, keeping the camera on one side of this axis for each shot. Crossing or jumping the line is known to happen if the camera passes over the axis.
Shot Reverse Shot
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shot_reverse_shot
Shot reverse shot is often used in filming elements of media to show when a character us looking at another character (sometimes off screen) and the other character can be shown looking back at the first character. By this the viewer is able to tell that they are most probably looking at each other.
Match-on-Action
http://www.slideshare.net/leviwigglesworth/shot-reverse-shot-and-match-on-action-media
Match on Action is similar to continuity editing in the fact that when something happens in the scene and there is a cut the same piece of action must be going on. It is said to help develope storyline and keep the audience aware of the action that is going on.
