Post 20: Media Language Lighting

Through my previous experience with filming I am more than aware of the greater impact and effect lighting has on footage. I decided to search on YouTube for extra tips and inspiration and came across this video on Video Production lighting which I found incredibly helpful. The gentleman in the film discusses the importance and the effect that lighting can have on a overall clip stating that footage may not look great until you position yourself and allow lighting to enhance the appearance. The man speaks of the contrasts between lighting seen through the eye in comparrisson to the way in which the camera interprets lighting, if something seems to bright through the human eye it may appear completely different through the sight of the camera and ends up having a positive impact on the overall filming.

Above is a video of key aspects when it comes to lighting. I found this video incredibly helpful as the man demonstrates official ways of dealing with lighting and footage to create a successful outcome. I intend to take his advice when it comes to my filming of our short film.

After searching up different elements of lighting I came across the simple 'Standard Three-Point Lighting'. This is a technique with the use of three light sources, two either side of the object and one facing the object. This use of lighting can be effective when it comes to creating shadows and drawing parallels as well as highlighting specific parts of the object. It can create interesting dynamic and if there is a reflective object it can cause light to bounce off of it which appears visually interesting.

Below is a video myself and my group have produced in order to display lighting.
